Poetica

1.

Late Spring, hard frost:
we covered the strawberries
in darkness.

The planets were out.
Something had been howling
earlier.

Look I said in the darkness
(I knew she was sleeping
upstairs)

Step out of the porch light
into the shadow of the tree
and disappear.

2.

If (says Dewey)
the key to happiness is
to find out what one is fitted to
and secure an oppurtunity to do it
perhaps discovering fitness
but losing the locus for application
is a busted lock.
