Heat Sonnet

Hot today, and hotter tomorrow.
Summer comes early to New England,
Our slow Winter long forgotten
Among the greening of Spring.

The hose runs warm now.
The dog pants at the door.
We close the windows early,
Preserve the chill of night,
The pressure of the rotating sun
Against the dew as it rises.

Watch as noon approaches
Outside our glass cocoon,
The green glow of the world
In a lightly clouded rain.
