All I Want Is A Couple Days Off

I am happy to announce that the administration is, for the moment at least, "satisfied that I did everything I could do," and that "this should be the end of the matter for now."

But note the qualifiers.

There is no way of knowing what impact, if any, this will have on my continued employment.

If, when the anticipated and unavoidable cuts come down the pike next month, I am asked to leave this wonderful place, I will forever suspect that this was the tipping point, and hate myself for it.

And to think just a week ago I was worried that such a blow would come from a lack of supervisory understanding about what I actually do 'round here.

We'll be in NYC for the weekend visiting my brother. Back Monday. Not sure how it will feel to blog after this, but I guess it's better to regroup for a while, take the few days off to think and wander.

Here's hoping we can return to the joyous and cynical mediacult randomalia that you've all come to know and love here at Not All Who Wander Are Lost.

Thanks to all for the support. I love you all.

Dilemma:

Would you keep blogging if you knew that the professional expectation was that it must remain civil?

Those of you that know me know I try to be as cautious as possible not to be cruel. But civil? Is careful critique of not people but institutions which people migth find dear or feel differently about satill "civil" in the eyes of that institution? Can it be?

I think the question is a valid one. Here's another question. Do you want to keep blogging in this space if you must be so ultra-cautious about things that you actually feel? I know you said that you can only blog from work, but I think that this place is too important to be constrained by such artificial limitations, and too important to lose. That's just my opinion though. You need to think about what you'd want to do in a perfect world. Would you keep this space as is if you could? Would you move on anyway? If you want to use this forum, you need to find a way to do it, regardless. If your tired of blogging that's one thing, but don't let "the man" bring you down, brother. Don't let Him bring you down.

Oh yea, and I can't spell. Sue me.

I missed the comments so can only infer from your own statements what was in them. But it sounds as though someone went off on one at you and you replied in kind, in your own Comments box in your own Blog.

I am struggling to see what Professional complaint could be made on this basis.
